Suzani and bath robes of El Cosmico hotel

Suzani wallhaging at El Cosmico hotel wedding

We often feel deep gratitude for living in the age of internet.  Assuming we are not loading our brains with unnecessary content having information at our fingertips is priceless. Oftentimes inspiration we get comes through a simple google search. For example, when we were googling something related to “ikat robes” we somehow found this suzani photo in search results:

Suzani wallhanging in El Cosmico hotel in Marfa,Tx.

This is a photo taken by  Geoff Duncan at El Cosmico hotel in Marfa, Texas. Do you see that suzani wall hanging? It is from Uzbekistan. Let’s not mention that it is a work of art because it is. Do you feel what magical one-of-a-kind atmosphere it is creating here? The room would not have so much character without it.

Now let’s move to robes analysis. Ok, these are not ikat robes BUT the pattern of the robes is very similar to a traditional silk bekasab robes. Bekasab fabrics are widely used for making padded robes for men. Clearly, whoever worked on this hotel’s image was inspired by Uzbekistan and Uzbek textile traditions.

Those of you who plan to travel to Texas and appreciate one of a kind hotel experiences may want to check out a bohemian El cosmico hotel in Marfa, TX. You may also want to listen to this podcast with an entrepreneur and hotelier Liz Lambert to understand a philosophy behind the brand.

Speaking of suzani, we offer several suzani wall hangings in our store as well as suzani embroidered pillow covers which will add a beautiful touch of warmth and color to any interior. We also suggest using our suzani as bohemian tablecloths for special events.
