Ikat scarves

Silk scarves from Uzbekistan

Although silk and silk ikats have a centuries old tradition in Uzbekistan, silk scarves are a way of bringing the tradition to modern day accessories. The technique of making the silk ikat fabric goes back to 19th century Uzbekistan. Ikats back in those days were very expensive and were available only to the royal “khan” families.

Silk is known for its property to keep you cool in summer and to keep you warm in winter, in spite of being a very delicate fabric. The silk is also known for its property to change its color depending on a light and a view from which you look at it. Try to move a silk scarf in your hands and you will notice a thousand hues of the main color. If you have ever been to a carpet shop, you probably have seen this color changing property of silk displayed on silk rugs. By mixing pure silk with an ikat making technique you get an artisanal hand made scarf which is trendy yet a timeless item in your collection of accessories.
