The octagon shaped box is made of paper-mache and hand-painted in Uzbek traditions of ornamental painting. Please notice that the quality of the paper-mache is very high. It is durable and it is processed to have a smooth surface (versus "wrinkly" surface). The craftsmanship of each piece is extremely delicate, elaborate, and unique.
The golden parts of the lid of the box were created by applying a very thin golden foil to the surface of the paper-mache. The ornamentation was then painted on the foil.
The flower stems of the decoration as well as parts of ornaments were painted in genuine liquid bronze, which makes the colors more vivid. This is the last touch that's added to the box before covering it with several layers of lacquer for protection.
