Bukhara, an ancient city along the Silk Road, has been famous for its golden and silver thread embroidery for centuries. Hand embroidered items similar to this one could be worn only by royalty. It is only in the 20th century the embroidered clothes and slippers became available to simple people.

Products embroidered with golden or silver threads are very festive. In Uzbekistan they are usually worn for special occasions such as weddings. These slippers are entirely hand made.
